Mark Daman Thomas has a multi-dimensional career as a musician, artist, event producer, lecturer and label owner. Active since 2004, he has released 5 albums, 2 mini-albums and 3 EPs with his bands Islet and Attack + Defend and his solo project 'Farm Hand'. Based in rural mid Wales he has over 12 years live and touring experience, including USA, Japan and Europe. He has played many international festivals including Primavera, SXSW and Eurosonic. Mark has recorded live sessions for BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 3. His solo project 'Farm Hand' was recently commissioned to create a site-specific live performance in a cave. 'Ringerz' a song written by Mark and the rest of Islet was used by Visit Wales on their TV & online advertising campaign in 2010.
Mark co-founded and runs independent label Shape Records and has self released his own music as well as many others including H. Hawkline, Flamingods and Sweet Baboo. He appeared in BBC4 Documentary ‘Music For Misfits, The Story of Indie’ in 2015. As an artist manager Mark has worked closely with Heavenly Recordings, PIAS and Believe Digital.
As a creative producer Mark was selected to be on the PRS Foundation New Music Plus... UK creative and professional development programme. Mark was partnered to work with Chapter in Cardiff and founded From Now On festival. Mark has worked with organisations such as Green Man, Wales Millennium Centre and Focus Wales.
He is a lecturer in Music Business and Creative Industries at University of Gloucestershire and a visiting lecturer at University of South Wales. Mark is an accredited mentor and currently mentors new artists on the Forte project.
